Hi, I'm Sharon Sharpe, and welcome to my first Blog post!
A short history of Achieve Therapeutics.... Links are provided along the way in case you want to know more.
The '80's and '90's....
I began my career as a Certified Athletic Trainer. This is a national certification indicating completion of a (since this year!) Masters Level education program, approved by the Board of Certification, in the care and management of injuries to active people. In Massachusetts, and more and more states each year, an Athletic Trainer is a Licensed Allied Health Care Professional. During my clinical athletic training career I was fortunate to be selected to travel internationally with USA Basketball to the Junior Women's World Championships in 1997, and to the Olympic Winter Game in 1998 with the Speed Skating team.
After over 20 years taking care of athletes, and the 60+ hour weeks, it was time to embrace a different aspect of the profession so I obtained a Doctoral degree from Boston University_ in Movement and Rehab Sciences, in order to become a teaching professor. While my experiences teaching were very rewarding, I found myself missing the clinical side of Athletic Training (not the "standing outside in the horizontal sleet working a game after a 3 hour van ride" side).
Private practice was the best avenue for me to do that. I obtained my Massage Therapy License in 2012 and opened Achieve Therapeutics in 2013. Along the years of my career I have been developing and augmenting my skills in hands on therapies, and continue to do so. I want to provide the best possible outcomes to my patients.
My goal is to help each person I treat to get BETTER, and get out there and enjoy new found freedom of movement, more energy, and better performance, and less risk of injury/reinjury.
Coming soon..... posts on different chronic conditions... Neck pain, shoulder pain, etc, etc.
I invite and appreciate any comments and feedback. I am a beginner at the blog scene!
Thanks and I would love to hear from you!
