I practice, and study, state of the art, light touch soft tissue therapies based on the evolving science of soft tissue mechanics. These techniques address restrictions and unbalances in the web of connective tissue throughout the body known as fascia.
How does fascia cause pain? Think of wearing a skin suit. If one area of the suit is pulled, the entire suit changes shape in response. This is how fascia reacts in the body, pulling adjoining tissues, creating imbalance and making normal movement more difficult. Some tissues now are strained, resulting in pain.
Due to its mesh-like, layered structure, Fascial restriction in one part of the body can be the root cause of pain in another by changing normal movement patterns. If treatment is focused only on the painful area, the cause may be missed, and the problem persists after many attempts to treat it.
If you have persistent pain which has not improved after other forms of treatment (medication, physical therapy, traditional massage), you don’t have to just live with it.
